Summer is here! Time to take your family and friends to the street fairs and enjoy yourselves. In fact, the San Diego fair was at the Del Mar fairgrounds at the beginning of summer, starting June 7 and ending July 6.One of the biggest attractions for these types of events are the food. There is something there for everyone to try, but recently chocolate covered bacon has become an increasingly popular food at the fair. Sweet and salty make such a great combination that I decided to use it as inspiration for a cake to bake, which is described below. Cakes are very popular among birthdays but they can also be a special treat for just about any event. For large a event, it would be best to hire our catering company, if you are in San Diego, or your local catering company to help with all the food preparations. However, if you are planning to host a small event, then you can either take care of the food preparations yourself or you can simply hire catering services. If you plan to do it all yourself then here is a quick and easy recipe for Chocolate Bacon Cake. This treat is sure to be a hit whether it is for an event in San Diego or for a birthday party in Los Angeles.
Chocolate Bacon Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 7 strips of bacon (feel free to add more if desired)
- 1 tub of chocolate frosting (Preferably Pillsbury's Chocolate Fudge Frosting)
- 1 box of Pillsbury's Moist Supreme Devil's Food Cake Mix (or any other type of chocolate cake mix, but be sure to follow those specific instructions)
Additional Ingredients for Pillsbury's Cake Mix:
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of oil
- 3 eggs
Directions:
1. Follow the instructions on the box you chose to use. If you chose the recommended mix, then follow those instructions as well. Basically, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then mix all your ingredients (except the bacon and frosting of course) in a large bowl.
2. You can either fry your bacon in a pan or use microwavable kind if you are really pressed for time. Put the bacon in a small and seal-able plastic bag. Then use a rolling pin or meat tenderizer to crush it into bits. Mix the bits with the batter. Don't forget to save some bits for the decoration of the cake.
3. Prepare the pan you are going to pour your batter into by spraying some kind of no-stick spray, such as Pam. Pour you batter in and then put it in the oven. Follow the heating instructions on the box for bake times.
4. Allow plenty of time for the cake to cool. Once it has cooled, apply frosting and add the rest of the bacon bits on top for decoration.
So there you have it! A chocolate bacon cake that is ready to be served at any event you have planned. This is one of the quickest and easiest recipes, but if you have more time then you can start from scratch. If you do decide to start from scratch here is another easy recipe for a cake from scratch. No matter whether you start from scratch or not, serve it at the birthday event or even at a tailgate event or any other event for a fun and unique dessert. The San Diego fair may be over, but you can still get your chocolate and bacon fix. Plus, you do not even need to be in San Diego to enjoy this delicious dessert. Bon Appétit!

San Diego Catering - How To Find A Caterer for A Company Event
Organizing a catered event for your company requires efficient management skills and attention to details. Whether the event is for a small or large number of guests, your main goal is to provide the best food experience to them. One of the important things on your to-do list is to work with a reliable company that will help you pull off a successful catering event. There are numerous catering professionals who help companies organize their events such as business meetings, product launches, training seminars and other events that require catering services.
Before choosing a catering service provider, you have to consider the following things so you won’t end up hiring the wrong catering company. Your focus should be on hiring a caterer with proven expertise in handling successful catered events.
Create a list of caterers near your area.
Look for catering service providers that are located near your area. Considering the location of their company will save you a great deal of time and stress. You can easily meet them and start making appointments to further discuss your event with them. However, there are catering services that require a specific period of time to avail their services. For instance, one catering company will require you to contact them 4 months before the date of event. On the other hand, you may find caterers that can handle your catered event at any time you want to use their services.
Coordinate with the caterer.
Be involved in planning your catering event. Getting a catering service doesn't mean you do not have to visit the caterer and discuss the event’s details. Meeting the caterer will give you an idea of the type of services they offer. Doing so will help you determine the suitable catering service that will help you organize a successful catered event for the company you are working for. You may also consider checking several catering companies prior to making a decision on the one you will hire. Of course, you have to consider your budget, time and date of the catered event.
Consider your budget and payment method they require.
As much as possible, you have to try to minimize the budget slightly. This will be helpful especially if you need to make any changes to your catering menu that will result in additional costs. In some cases, the cost of catering increases during the preparation. Therefore, understating the budget will be a great idea that will help you cover additional costs during your catered event planning. Ask the caterer about their payment methods. Some may require you to pay for at least 50 percent of the total amount of their service before the event. Do not forget to ask about cancellations, refunds and other important details about payment methods. Caterers normally have their contracts that will give important details to their clients including the types of services, payment terms and other details they want to know about the company policies. Therefore, read these details carefully before signing the catering contract.

How To Plan A Low-Cost Menu For Your Event
Food plays a very important part to ensure success of events, parties, and other social gatherings. Hosts prepare special menu to show their guests how they appreciate their presence and let them enjoy their events. However, this special menu doesn’t have to be expensive. You just need to have a detailed plan on how you can reduce your catering expenses while ensuring a successful catering event. A catering doesn’t have to be full of hors d'oeuvres, you may consider looking for other affordable catering plans that will offer the same quality of food in lower prices.
When creating a menu for your event, you have to consider various factors such as theme of event, your guest profile, their preferences of food choices, and portioning of food during your event. Before you do a major damage on your wallet, you have to know these simple tips when planning a low-cost catering menu.
Consider the type of event and look for cheaper alternatives. Your menu should be based on the theme and type of event you are planning to host. If you are doing a corporate event, you may consider serving simple cocktails which will let your guests mingle with other guests during your party. When planning a catered event for an outdoor birthday party, you can have a barbeque-style menu which is great instead of organizing a sit-down formal dinner.
Prepare and serve the food yourself. For simple events like birthday parties and other simple gatherings, you may get some help from your loved ones or friends to prepare your menu. Preparing the food in your house is cheaper and convenient especially if the venue is near your house. However, if you plan to rent other location for your event, you have to confirm if bringing any food is allowed. Otherwise, you may need to look for alternative venue for your catered event.
Serve delicious food that cost the least. Create a menu that requires little time to prepare. Keep in mind that sometimes the cheaper foods are also some of the easiest to prepare. Therefore, you have to create a menu that is not too complicated to set up. You will save more time and money if you opt for simple menu.
Get some help from experienced caterers. Some may think that hiring a catering company may be expensive. However, getting a good caterer is a great idea even though you have a tight budget for your catered event. At present, many caterers work with their clients and consider the budget they have for their catering. These experts provide professional advice to their clients especially if their budget becomes an issue while planning their event.
At Buckboard Catering, we aim to provide innovative methods in planning exceptional catered events in San Diego. Simple Tips in Managing Your Catering Budget
Most catering services do not provide pricing for the services they offer. Do not be surprised and do not think that they are trying to rip you off. The reason why some of these companies do not give exact pricing is because not all of their catering approaches may be suitable to your catering budget as well as the theme of your party.
Keep in mind that each catering event is unique, meaning it has a different theme, location, number of guests, and setting. Therefore, when trying to get an answer about pricing, it is best to discuss with the catering company the most important details about your event. This will allow them to get an idea of your expectations and plans for your catering event. As a result, they can create a customized and innovative plan for your catering event based on your style, preferences, and theme.
Most catering companies create proposals based on the items needed for your catering event. The proposals normally have the break downs of the items such as rental charges, staffing, menu, and other expenses for your catered event. Some catering companies may offer packaged pricing that covers these expenses. When planning a catered event, you have to make sure you get a detailed proposal which includes any options and other extra charges involved in their services.
The cost of your catering menu depends on the items you want to serve and the number of guests you have. However, the cost may vary depending on the type of catering company because every caterer has their own style, presentation, and food suppliers. So do not be surprised if the costs of catering menus are different from caterer to caterer. Be aware that other catering services require a minimum amount of food. It is best to check with them and inquire about the different costs of their menu prior to hiring them. When it comes to choosing the beverages you want to offer during your catered event, make sure you ask the catering service about the options they offer or if they use priced on a per-person basis. You may consider asking them if you are only charged for the opened beverages consumed by your guests. It is very important to confirm with them so you won’t end up facing expensive bills.
Another important thing is to confirm if the costs for their rental items are included in their packaged price. Some caterers will have the costs of tables, chairs, glassware, platters and serving dishes itemized. In addition, a catering event requires staff that can help you manage the food and drink service during the event. Therefore, it is necessary to ask the catering company and get more details about some general per hour costs for their staffing.
Other considerations that can have an effect on your catering budget are location of your catered event, its duration, and the time of year you plan to organize it. Do not forget that it is very important to read any contracts thoroughly prior to signing them. Ask about all additional charges included in their catering services. Keep in mind that you have to always get the costs in writing before signing their catering contract. Get more information about catering by visiting Buckboard Catering website now!

How To Choose the Menu For Your Wedding
Choosing a menu for your wedding may be a daunting task. We know that good menus tend to have a little bit of everything combined with some personality. Wedding catering menus are different from menus we see in restaurants, these are carefully created based on the preferences of the people involved in a wedding. A menu for a wedding should highlight the best parts of this special occasion.
Know your basic menu.
Your wedding menu may be in a form of a buffet style or a seated dinner menu. Buffet refers to a self-service style that offers a great way to get guests out of their seat and allow them to mingle with other guests. This style is a less expensive option and works best if you are serving a large number of guests. On the other hand, a seated dinner is considered as an elegant option which lets your guests remain seated and be served in synchronicity. This style requires a careful planning wedding seating chart or table seating plan. It will allow your guests to enjoy your wedding reception while seeing other family members, old friends, or other guests. Another good thing about a seated dinner is that it allows the bride and groom to eat while guests are having dinner or waiting for the next course, with less interruptions.
Think about what you love to eat.
Prior to choosing the food you want for your wedding menu, it is best to determine the foods that have special significance to you and your partner. Keep in mind that your wedding gives you an opportunity to share something personal with your guests. At the same time, you should consider the preferences of your guests including the kids at your wedding. Prepare a separate menu with pizza, pasta or other kid-friendly foods. If most of your guests have conservative palates, you may consider limiting the more exotic foods to the first course.
Hire a reliable caterer.
One of the reasons behind the success of wedding receptions is a good catering service. Therefore, working with a catering service provider will help you ensure the success of your wedding catering. Do not forget that the best catering service providers are often reserved a year in advance, especially during wedding season. It is best to find a good catering company and book them as soon as you finalized a date for your special day. In some cases, reception sites have their exclusive arrangements for catering. They require their clients to choose from the list of vendors that offer catering services. When discussing menu ideas, be aware that you have to make your decisions as early as possible. You may want to request a taste tasting if you want to get an idea of what the menu will be.
In order to ensure the success of your wedding catering services, you should work with a reliable catering company that has an exceptional background in pulling off beautiful catering events. Buckboard Catering offers a wide selection of catering services. We are more than prepared to offer a wide range of menu options from aromatic hor d'oeuvres to Southern-style barbecue to Asian Infusion. Tips For Planning A Successful Catering Event
Each successful event requires a systematic planning with focus on a good ambiance, excellent food and relevant decorations. We know that cost-effective catering is one of the most integral parts of planning a successful event. Catering aims to provide a welcoming ambiance and offer quality food to guests.
Usually, food presentation is the primary focus of catering. Caterers make sure the food they offer is pleasing to look at and appeal to the guests’ own taste and preferences. However, catering an event is not an easy task. The best thing to do is to start your preparation in advance so that you will not overlook the important aspects of a catering event. However, there are important things which you need to consider when planning a catering event.
Find a location prior to planning your catering event.
All catering events should have a location where hosts and guests get together. You cannot start your solid catering plan if you still haven’t found a good event venue. The event’s set up and decorations will depend on the location where your party will be held. Therefore, find and book the venue in advance. It will help you create a systematic plan and get better ideas on how you will organize your catering event.
Know your catering options depending on your available time and budget.
You have options for handling a catering event, it’s either you do it yourself or hire a company that offers a catering service. Hiring a caterer is a great idea but you have to make sure you are hiring a reliable catering company with proven expertise in organizing successful catering events.
Choose a menu based on the food preferences of your guests.
Your guests are your primary considerations when creating a food menu. For instance, prepare food for vegans who are coming to your event.
